Welcome to the jewel of South Africa, the Garden Route. It includes areas like Mossel BayGeorge, Knysna and Plettenberg BayTsitsikamma, to name but a few, and is in close proximity to the Klein Karoos Route 62 (considered the longest wine route in the country). This route encompasses Paarl, Prince Albert, Oudtshoorn, Montagu, Robertson and Barrydale.

  • Knysna Splash December 2014

    The Knysna Splash is the Garden Route’s very own family orientated festival and will take place from the 19th to the 21st of December 2014. As the name may imply the four main activities will take place in and around the Knysna lagoon. Read on for a breakdown of the exciting activities!

    Splash Mud Run 19th December 2014

    Taking place at Loerie and Cathy parks off George Rex Drive, participants need to register at 9.00am and be ready to get a little muddy! This is a great way to let your hair down and have some not so clean fun. At the end of the race firemen will be waiting to hose you down! Just remember to bring a towel.

    Splash Knysna Lagoon Mile 20th December 2014

    The Knysna Mile is divided into two categories, the mile swim (1600m) and the junior swim (450m). Starting at 14.30pm from the Knysna Yacht Club, this race is a lot of fun for young and old alike. Be sure to register from about 10.30.

    Splash Quack Attack 20th December 2014

    We can’t think of a better sight than watching up to 1000 ducks race against each other as their owners stand and cheer the little duckies on! The race will start at 16.00pm at the Knysna Waterfront with some great prizes up for grabs. Ducks are all numbered and can be purchased for R20 from the Knysna Mall and the Knysna Waterfront from the 13th of December.

    Splash Dragon Boat Race 21st December 2014

    Get a team together and head out for an exciting race using traditional Chinese style dragon boats. Each boat will have a crew of 10 and be decorated with flair. There are two categories for the race, one for those wanting to have a relaxed and fun race, and the other for those who are ready for a little competition! Races will start on Thesen Island, next to Sirocco, at 10.00am for the first heat and continue mid afternoon.

  • Garden Route 300 27 February 2015

    The Garden Route 300 will take place from the 27th of February to the 1st of March 2015!

    The Garden Route 300 has become one of the most participated cycling events on the Garden Route. Taking place from the 27th of Feb to the 1st of March 2015, this is a race every cyclist anticipates. Three days of breathtaking views and some unbelievable track, be sure to book your place sooner rather than later!

  • Simola Hillclimb May 2015

    The Knysna Speed Festival will be held from the 15th to the 17th of May 2015. The event this year has been sponsored by Jaguar and promises to be an exciting occasion!


    The Knysna Speed Festival is proud to announce its fifth annual event in Knysna. With Jaguar sponsoring the event this year, one can expect an exciting and fun filled weekend. Welcome to the Jaguar Simola Hillclimb 2015!

    The Hillclimb will take place between the 15th and 17th of May 2015 and is sure to entertain all speed and car enthusiasts. Being hosted by Simola Country Estate means we have one of the world's most impressive hillclimb routes.

    Friday the 15th will be reserved for 'Classic Car Friday', giving everyone a chance to look at and appreciate some real classics. Saturday and Sunday's event has been dubbed "King of the Hill Shootout", and this is when all the action happens. Watch as some of the fastest and impressive cars race for the title of King. One can certainly look forward to a weekend of pure adrenalin and fun for the whole family.

    The annual Absa Calitzdorp Port and Wine Festival will take place over the 13th and 1th of June 2015. This year’s event promises to be a great one as the programme offers a wide variety of events and excitement. Hosted by renowned port producers, Boplaas, Calitzdorp Cellar, De Krans and many more, and partnered by ABSA.

    The festival will be held at the historic Calitzdorp Railway Station as previous years. Some great attractions will include Tastings, a Gourmet Street Market and ‘Secret Dinners’. There will be live music and great food, so be sure to keep these dates open!

  • Knysna Oyster Festival July 2015

    The annual Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival is one of South Africa’s most popular events. As the Oyster Festival is aimed at sporting events, many competitors flock to the quaint town of Knysna on the Garden Route to participate.

    Among the many events to take part in, the Knysna half and full marathon are the most popular, with spots being filled well before the festival takes place. If you are thinking of competing, be sure to check online as soon as possible!

    Not just for the competitors, the Oyster Festival is a great week to spend with family and friends. There are oyster eating competitions, live music, numerous activities and great parties if you are looking for a good night out!

    A uniquely South African wine festival and the Garden Route’s Premiere Wine Event is heldduring the Knysna Oyster Festival in July. 

    A uniquely South African wine festival and the Garden Route’s Premiere Wine Event will once again be taking place during the Knysna Oyster Festival.


    This not be missed event in 2014 show cased 50 of South Africa’s best wine estates and was even better than previous years. There is many tastings and best of all, guests are able to interact with the producers and learn about current trends in the industry. If you like to think of yourself as something of a connoisseur, this is the place for you!

    The vibrant Rastafarian community of Knysna invites visitors from all walks of life, from South Africa and abroad to participate in the annual Rasta Earth Festival. The event will take place from the 22nd to the 28th of July 2015.

    This colourful, rich festival celebrates the Rastafarian way of life; their food and music, as well as the philosophy behind a religion based on truth and love.
